Here is a reminder from our friends at Medicine Wheel about not riding in the mud. In short, please don’t! With the freeze-thaw and shady snow patches that happen through the spring, we do get some serious mud in certain areas. Riding in the mud really tears up the trails and aggravates other trail users. If you do come across a short section of mud, please ride straight through the middle. Riding “around” the mud patch just makes for a wider trail with more mud.
Places that can be really muddy include:
- Palmer Park
- Red Rocks Park
- Section 16 – the east side by the hogbacks
- Cheyenne Mountain State Park
- Garden of the Gods
- Parts of Ute Valley Park
If you do want to ride (and who doesn’t), we suggest the following:
- Ride in the morning when the mud is still frozen,
- Ride in the mountain canyons where the ground is decomposed granite or gravel (Capt Jacks, Columbine, etc), not in the areas that have sandstone, shale, or clay soils.
- Go to Pueblo (but check conditions there on MTBR.com)
Please be an awesome chick and good steward of the trail. We would like to preserve our trails for future use.
